Why Tucson Homeowners Choose DSR for Roof Replacement
Veteran-Owned. Tucson-Rooted.
Founded by Bill Kimbley — a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran with 20+ years of service and two tours in Afghanistan.
Connected to Tucson since 1997. DSR was built here because he saw contractors inflating scopes, pushing unnecessary replacements, and treating homeowners like cash cows — and decided Tucson deserved better.

Does Your Roof Actually Need to Be Replaced?
Here’s something most roofing companies won’t tell you: not every roof that’s leaking needs to be torn off. Some need a full replacement. Others just need a repair or, for flat roofs, a fresh coat. A tile roof replacement in Tucson can run $10,000–$20,000+. A repair might cost a few hundred. We’ll get on your roof, photograph what we find, and give you a straight answer. We won’t push you toward the bigger job if the smaller one solves the problem.
“He was the only one that didn’t try to push a full tear off.”
— Verified Desert Sky Roofing CustomerWe once got called out during a real estate inspection. The roof was in near-perfect condition. I found one hairline crack by the chimney. Another contractor had already told them it needed a full replacement. He was wrong. We helped the realtors understand exactly what they were looking at, the deal closed, and the homeowner saved tens of thousands of dollars. That’s a normal Tuesday for us.
Signs Your Roof Probably Needs Replacement
- Tile roof 20+ years old with underlayment failing across large areas
- Shingle roof 15+ years old with widespread granule loss, curling, or cracking
- Flat roof with underlayment that’s delaminating, bubbling, or no longer bonding to the deck
- Soft or rotted wood in multiple areas
- Same sections repaired two or three times with leaks returning
- More than 20–30% of the roof surface in poor condition

Roof Replacement FAQs
Honest answers to the questions Tucson homeowners ask most.
How do I know if I need a full replacement or just a repair?
It depends on age, overall condition, and scope of damage. Isolated damage — a few blown shingles, a cracked tile, a failed flashing — often calls for a repair. If the underlying system is failing across a large area, repair becomes a Band-Aid. A free inspection gives you a straight answer.
How long does a replacement take?
Most residential replacements take one to three days depending on roof size, system type, and decking repairs. Flat roofs may take slightly longer due to primer cure time.
What is a lift-and-lay?
We stage your existing tiles, strip the old underlayment, repair the deck, install new flashings and peel-and-stick underlayment, then reset your original tiles. The tile lasts 50–100 years; it’s the underlayment that fails. A lift-and-lay gives you a brand-new roof system without the cost of all-new tile.
Do I need a permit for a roof replacement in Tucson?
No. Pima County does not require a permit if the same roof type is going back on. If you want to change roof types, we can help you pull a permit.
How long does a shingle roof last in Tucson?
Less than the box says. Surface temps regularly hit 150–180°F and UV is relentless year-round. Expect 20–25 years from a premium shingle like Tamko Titan XT. Standard shingles and south-facing slopes will see shorter lifespans.
What’s the difference between standard BUR and the 27-year green system?
Standard BUR uses hot mop felt with primer and two coats of TRC 7000 (10-year warranty, recoat at 5–7 years). The 27-year system uses no hot asphalt: peel-and-stick base, X-PU membrane, full-surface polyester fabric, and TRC-10000. Recoat cycle extends to 14 years with TRC manufacturer warranty backing.
Can my insurance cover a replacement?
Possibly, if damage was caused by a storm event. We can inspect, document, and work with your adjuster. Titan XT shingles with Class 3 impact resistance may qualify you for a premium discount.
Can you replace my roof if I have solar panels?
Yes. We work with a licensed, insured solar company and can coordinate timing to minimize downtime, or we can work with your existing solar company.
What warranties do you offer?
Tile: 10-year DSR workmanship + 50-year underlayment product warranty. Shingle: 7, 10, or 20 years depending on materials and system. Flat roof: 5 or 10-year DSR workmanship + TRC manufacturer warranty on the 27-year green system. All warranties are written and on record.
Do you offer financing or discounts?
Yes on both. Financing is available for qualified homeowners. Discounts for veterans, senior citizens, and first responders. Ask during your free inspection.
